The following wax products are commonly used in industry:
FT-Wax (Fischer-Tropsch Wax) is a by-product of the coal-to-liquids industry. It is hydrorefined to obtain high-quality wax products with high freezing point and narrow carbon distribution. In plastic processing, it has shown superior performance to other wax products in hot melt adhesives, coatings, asphalt, etc.
According to different melting points, paraffin wax is often divided into high melting point, medium melting point and low melting point. High melting point paraffin wax is obtained from crude oil through distillation, solvent dewaxing and hydrogen refining. The melting point can reach 72°C, and the oil content can be controlled below 1%. For some grades, the oil content may be less than 0.5%. Paraffin wax has a very natural structure, it has good compatibility with wood and paper fibers, and is the best choice for paper coatings and wood waterproofing. Also, it is ideal for blending, coatings, paper, plastic lubrication and hot melt adhesives. Mid-melting paraffin wax is a white, odorless solid with a typical melting point of about 56-64°C (133-147°F) and a density of about 0.9 g/cm3. Low-melting paraffin wax is deeply refined and has a low oil content, making it ideal for hand batches, container candles, and cosmetics.
Microcrystalline wax is isolated from petroleum and has small, barely visible crystals and a high melting point and viscosity. Microcrystalline waxes are commonly used in cosmetics and chewing gum. It can also be used as an ingredient to add flexibility, toughness and hardness to other products.
Wax emulsions are often used to protect clearcoat surfaces from abrasive forces and moisture. Wax emulsions are usually formulation additives made of fine, stable wax particles dispersed uniformly in water. As liquids, they are easily incorporated into paint and paint formulations with simple mixing.
